What's The Difference Between a "Custom" and "Domestic" Order?
Why are we discussing the differences between custom and domestic?
When doing business with a manufacturer, they typically have multiple facilities for production. Continental Headwear features facilities in the US and China. Each location has different capabilities and corresponding lead times. Let us help you understand your options so you can make the best decision for your project!
What is a domestic order?
Domestic generally has a very short lead time: 5-7 Business Days after sample approval. Domestic orders have limited customization options, primarily only embroidery techniques. Depending on the complexity of your logo and customization, domestic is a great choice for many clients.
When is a domestic project recommended?
Domestic orders are best suited for lower quantity orders or orders that require a fast turn around time.
What techniques can be included with a domestic order?
Direct flat or 3-D embroidery on the front, sides or back of a cap.
What is a custom order?
A custom order requires the capabilities of our overseas facilities and results in a longer lead time: 6-8 weeks after sample approval. Typically, this is going to be because of the techniques (mentioned below), quantities, or general level of customization falling outside of the capabilities of our domestic equipment.
When is a custom project recommended?
When you need a higher quantity and are looking for the lowest possible cost. Additionally if you need a lot of detail, anything becomes possible with a custom order – especially if you need something other than embroidery.
What techniques require an order to be custom and fulfilled overseas?
Direct Embroidery, liquid metal, sublimation print, metal flake, reverse 3D embroidery, cut and sewn panels, felt appliqué, laser etching. Also if you need specialized placement of graphics or embroidering, a custom order would make these unique requests possible.
